EVERT THERON – CAPTAIN
Evert, married to Tanya, started in the yachting industry 2 years ago, after a successful corporate career in sales and running his own photography business. Soon after getting married, Both Evert and Tanya quit their day jobs in search of new adventures and a life at sea which brought them into yachting. With Evert’s natural mechanical and engineering abilities, he quickly landed his first job and were exceeding expectations from the get go.
I started as Deckhand on a very interesting Motorized Cat in the Med where I learnt a lot about boat management, engineering, shipyard periods and the yachting industry. After finishing our first season, Tanya and I helped sail a 55ft Cat from Bali to Cape Town. This was my first step to becoming a captain and enabled me to complete some of the courses I was doing and gave me plenty of days at sea. After some more courses, a position as First mate on a 138ft based in Fort Lauderdale and the Bahamas and driving our 47ft Intrepid Tender, I realized I was ready to step up into a captaincy role.
Coming from bigger Super Yachts, I really enjoy the smaller vessels that offer more opportunities to get to know your guests personally and almost become like family. Since starting on Irresistible we have done various trips around the USVI, BVI and Puerto Rico. I highly respect the ocean and I know that I will never stop learning. Being a Captain is not a job to me, but rather a lifestyle that I intend on living out with passion and conviction.
When we have some free time, you can find me in the ocean Surfing or spearfishing ,or traveling and exploring the world together with my wife. I also like to tinker with projects such as car and motorbike restoration and even the occasional surfboard building project.
Nothing would give me greater pleasure than to welcome you aboard Irresistible so that I can show you around the spectacular islands where dreams come true and happiness and fun are sure to follow.
TANYA THERON - CHEF
Tanya, married to Captain Evert, started in the yachting industry 2 years ago, after a successful corporate career in events and marketing management. Soon after getting married, Both Evert and Tanya, quit their day jobs in search of new adventures and a life at sea which brought them into yachting.
I started as Stewardess on board a 135ft Motor yacht in the Mediterranean but because of my love of cooking I quickly gravitated towards the galley where I started out cooking meals for the crew and slowly progressing to creating and preparing menus and meals for guests.
Although I have no formal culinary training, I do possess a natural ability to create beautiful tasty dishes that leaves everyone asking for more. I love cooking fresh, healthy food with a large dose of comfort and since I am from South Africa I try to incorporate some of the flavors of home. I enjoy all cuisines and am flexible to adapt to whatever the day warrants.
When not in the galley, I enjoy being on deck in the sun and salt air helping with the water toys and making time for some snorkeling or diving with the guests. I am an all round water-woman that enjoys surfing, swimming and wakeboarding.
I have a warm and friendly demeanor and look forward to inviting new guests aboard Irresistible to enjoy the pleasures of the ocean and experiences of a lifetime.
STUART VAN KUYEREN – FIRST MATE
Stuart is a fit, strong, young man who left the shores of South Africa in search of a new career at sea. After finishing his Marketing degree and working in the industry for a while, he soon realized that there should be more to life than sitting in an office. That’s when he found himself in Fort Lauderdale looking for his first yachting job. Having some family members in the industry helped him to get a foot in the door quickly, and he could hit the ground running.
I started day working with my cousin on a 103ft Sport Fishing vessel in Fort Lauderdale where he taught me all the tricks of the trade. Not long after, I got acquainted with the Monocle family and started out on our sister-yacht, Perfect Sense, also an 80 footer. Here I mainly did trips in the Bahamas and really got to know the boat and the industry well. As it was only a temporary position, I was very happy when Monocle offered me a permanent position on one of their other yachts, namely Irresistible. I jumped at the opportunity as it was such a pleasure to work for the company, and already knowing the boat it was a no brainer.
Whenever I get a chance, I always have a line in the water to see if we can catch a fish for dinner, but mostly I just enjoy the ocean, feeling the wind in my hair and the sun in my face. When on land however, I am a golf enthusiast and like to play a round every chance I get (Although in this industry it doesn’t happen that often).
My favorite part of the day is interacting with the guests and getting to know what they like and enjoy so that I can provide it to them as much as possible, making their stay with us relaxing, fun and unforgettable.
