Capt. Shachar "Shack" Ben-David
Born into a seafaring family, Captain Shachar “Shack" Ben-David spent his youth in Israel and England sailing small boats and listening to the tales of the sea from his grandfather and great uncle. Upon moving to the United States he enlisted in the Coast Guard where he would serve as navigator and deck officer aboard a wide range of vessels for over twenty years.
Shack first came to the Virgin Islands in the late 1990s and would see multiple tours in both the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico where he developed a love for the beautiful Caribbean waters throughout his Coast Guard career. His time aboard ship would also find him sailing around the world from the far reaches of the Bering Sea to the shores of Australia and Asia and many points in between.
After retiring he spent some years working aboard Cruise ships, before once again settling in St. Thomas where he began captaining charters around the U.S. and British Virgin islands. As an experienced mariner, he is able to offer a huge breadth of experience to both passengers and crew. Bringing his love of the ocean, and extensive local knowledge, Shack is able to curate unique and memorable voyages that are sure to give every guest the experience of a lifetime.
From the youngest family member to the most seasoned traveler, each guest will be treated to the very best that chartering has to offer under his watchful eye aboard the luxurious yacht RUNAWAY.
Chef/Mate Charli Bellamy
Charli was born on a small farm in Georgia. A true southern girl at her roots whom loves world travel and all of its fine cuisine. Developing a love for travel at a young age, she has been exploring the world and incorporating new cuisine into her cooking for 15 years. Her gift is bringing the knowledge of her travels and experience’s abroad home and providing fabulous meals and fine dining experiences for her guest. At a young age she grew up cooking authentic Southern food with her grandparents. Feeding a large family, she developed a love for preparing meals for others using only the freshest of ingredients grown in the garden or sourced directly from the farm. Her charm comes out in full within each of her meals as her love of cooking and the delight it brings watching her guest enjoy the fabulous presentations’ and the warmth in her food
A woman of many talents Charli studied Chemistry at the University of Georgia where we all agree she learned how to make the perfect cocktail and sauces. She then spent six months studying abroad in Italy learning the finery of Italian cooking. At 24 she moved to New York City and attended design school at F.I.T. while working and managing a coffee shop where she delighted in meeting new people. Exploring her artistic side, she designed a small line of cocktail and party dresses that progressed into the founding of her own online vintage clothing store which brought with it the joy of ownership and appreciation of her accomplishment’s in the business world. Though enjoying her life Charli once again felt the call to explore more of the world. In the summer of 2015, having never sailed on the open ocean, Charli decided to fulfill a lifelong dream and go on a sailing trip. This trip changed her life and it is where she found her true passion for living and working on the sea.
Charli began her career on sail boats 5 years ago, beginning with small private charters in the Mediterranean. She has worked her culinary magic and sailed in Croatia, Montenegro, Mykonos, the Dodecanese, Sicily, Sardinia, Corsica, Bahamas, the San Juan Islands, and the Virgin Islands. While her favorites in cuisine are modern healthy Southern as well as Italian, she has had extensive experience cooking for specialized diets that are worldly in nature. These menus also include gluten free, vegetarian, vegan, keto/paleo diets. Overall, Charli is always wonderfully outgoing and works very hard with the wishes of her guest to provide them with the perfect complement to the completely customized menu for their stay aboard RUNAWAY.
Charli is an extremely active and outgoing woman whom loves meeting new people and designing the perfect itinerary and meal plan to give you the best vacation possible. She always goes above and beyond to exceed expectations and put a smile on your face which makes her the perfect complement to our team aboard Yacht RUNAWAY.
