CAPTAIN: Justin Holvik (Norwegian)

Justin holds the highest grade Norwegian Master Mariner certificate. He has spent his entire life at sea; in the Norwegian navy, long line fishing with his family North of the Arctic Circle and then on charter yachts both power and sail. The last command he had was a gaff cutter from 1908 which he sailed for two years including around The Horn and to the South Pacific. Justin has sailed with John on several yachts including the 3-masted schooner Shenandoah where Romy, Germania Nova’s Engineer also worked. During his time away from the sea he spends his time with his family who lives near Barcelona and goes skiing with them in Norway and the Pyrenees.

HEAD STEWARDESS: Katie Byng (British)

Kate was born and raised in Nottinghamshire, England and developed a love for the ocean from her scuba diving parents. Following in their footsteps and becoming a SCUBA instructor she quickly realized that a life at sea would suit her. Her life's ambition is to visit every country in the world and has chosen a career which enables her to fulfil this. Kate's aim is to ensure that the guests have a wonderful time and to share in the peace and tranquillity that sailing on Germania Nova brings. Kate's interests include underwater photography, videography, running, yoga, reading, cuisine and expanding her knowledge of the world. She would love the chance to dive the Titanic, search for shipwrecks and treasure and participate in underwater archeology.

CHEF: Julian Martinez Oliver (Spanish)

Julian was born in Mallorca 1972. He is a highly qualified chef with over 20 years experience working in restaurants in Mallorca, including 3 seasons in a 5 star hotel as well as various charter yachts. His focus has been mainly on fusion Mediterranean cuisine with an emphasis on the use of fresh seasonal produce. Julian is also experienced in Italian and French cooking as well as oriental/sushi.
A keen fisherman Julian loves cooking fresh seafood. Taste is as important as presentation and Julian will never fail to impress and please all guests on board!

SOUS CHEF: Ina Lobben (Swedish)

Ina was born in Stockholm, Sweden where she grew up with a big family and lots of pets. Ina enjoys being out in nature, writing and exploring new places. She has vast amount of experience in the hospitality industry as she has been working in hotels in Sweden and Norway since a young age. Ina also moved to China to become a teacher of language for children aged 1-8. Sailing is great love of Ina’s even more so after doing an Atlantic crossing with her other half on a 32 foot sailing boat, this taught her a lot about team work and effort. Ina loves the ocean!

MATE: Victor Torres (Spanish)

Victor came from the training scheme in Mallorca called Jovens Navigants. He has been on board Germania for almost 4 years and enjoys his life on the high seas. Victor is lighter on his feet than he looks and is very strong and is the one that we turn to when we need a little extra strength. He has also sailed on S/Y Merrymaid a beautiful 100 year old classic.

DECK STEWARDESS: Jessica Woolacott (British)

Jess lived in Devon all of her life and decided a year ago that she wanted to start a new journey doing something completely different from farming and living in the countryside. She grew up riding horses since the age of two and enjoy country traditions such as game shooting. Her father is a keen yachtsman and his love of sailing and passion for travel is one of the many things that inspired Jess to leave the beauty of Devon and make her way towards an adventurous life on the water.

STEWARDESS: Airem Ruiz (Columbian)

Airem was born in a mountainous little village in Colombia but later moved to Spain at the age of two, where she then grew up in a coastal city. Spending summers between Spain and Colombia she was always surrounded by green exotic landscapes and beautiful beaches which made her develop a deep love and respect for nature and the sea from an early age. She dedicates her time to studying, travelling and volunteering with different social, animals and ecologic organisations. Airem also likes to explore and adventure so is excited to see what this season holds.

Bosun: Olle Ljundahl (Swedish)

Growing up Olle sailed around the world with his family which made him an adult with an open mind and a hunger for adventure on the high seas. Fate led him to his first encounter with Germania Nova sailing into Admiralty Bay, Bequia in the West Indies. Inspired by her Beauty, the captain and his crew, Olle joined Germania Nova the following summer. Much of his previous experience comes from smaller yachts sailing the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Oceans.

DECKHAND: Nils Ljungdahl (Swedish)

Nils grew up in Sweden sailing in The Stockholm Archipelago with his family before setting out to sail around the world. The family ended up cruising for five years before moving back to Sweden where Nils discovered his love of skiing.
After high school Nils started an event promotion company with friends focusing on art, design and nightlife. His love for outdoor activities with family and friends and hunger for new challenges makes him appreciate life at sea. Nils is very interested in adventure, nature, plants and loves to discover and learn more about them as he travels.

DECKHAND: Jacobo Sanchez (Spanish)
Jacobo was born in Zaragoza but grew up in Lleida, Spain, he is always smiling and very active. Jacob studied in Whistler, Canada, while being sponsored by a downhill ski team and took part in many competitions. Diving and sailing are just a few of his passions but in particular diving, He is a trained commercial diver and diving instructor, with this job he has travelled extensively and became a safety diver for documentaries and was delighted to swim with sharks in Indonesia.

CHEIF ENGINEER: Romeo Penaflorida (Spanish)

Romy is another that has spent a life at sea. He worked for eighteen years as the Chief Engineer on the 3-masted gaff schooner Shenandoah of Sark. He has rounded the world four times and been around Cape Horn three times. If something is broken and Romy cannot fix it then it cannot be fixed. The only time that Romy has been seen looking worried was when the fuel froze in the fuel lines of Shenandoah after being storm bound up a fjord in South Georgia for a couple of days.

DECK ENGINEER: William Lester (British)

Will was born and raised in Somerset, England, he has been pursuing a career in the Engineering Industry for the past 7 years specialising in Steel fabrication, he has combined his love for sailing and knowledge of engineering to work on board Germania.
Before starting his adventure on board he has always had a keen interest in doing most sports that involves being outdoors such as Tug of war (national champion), motocross, Mountain biking, Skiing and also restoring classic and vintage sailing dinghies, one of which is a 1964 GP14 which was originally built by his Grandfather. He aims to one day own his own sailing boat and do a round the world trip with his fiancée.
