Captain Tim Smith

Tim Smith was born in Iowa and raised in North Dakota where there is far more land than water. His summers were spent onboard his family's sail boat on northern lakes and rivers; sailing, fishing and swimming. He attended the University of North Dakota and at twenty took a two year break from school and moved to the Virgin Islands. Sailing almost daily on the charter sail vessel VANDOR, and trying and learning as much as he could about boats and oceans, he began what has become his career. After returning to North Dakota and completing college, he immediately returned to boating and has not looked back.

In 1997, Tim refit and sailed his own 1963, 35' classic sloop ANAKENA from New Orleans, Louisiana to Puerto Rico. He has worked on commercial, private and charter vessels ranging from 29' to 142' including two American Sail Training Association (ASTA) Tall Ships. He has experience running vessels in the Caribbean and Mediterranean Seas, the Gulf of Mexico, the Bahamas, in addition to the east Coast of the United States from Florida to New England. Tim currently holds a United States Coast Guard 1600 Ton Master License with Ocean Endorsement.

When not working, you can find Tim in Puerto Rico with his fiancée Denise, their son Christian Aubrey, and their two dogs Bella and Blanca.

Tim looks forward to having you aboard the beautiful motor yacht, DIAMOND GIRL, introducing you to one of the best crews in the business, and doing his part to ensure a safe and wonderful vacation for you and your family.

First Mate Brandon Guenther

Brandon Guenther hails from the river city of Cincinnati, Ohio. After graduating high school, he left for the US Army to train as a Huey Helicopter Mechanic and Crew Chief. As a crew chief Brandon accumulated 456 hours of flying time in his first 9 months on flight status. He specialized in transporting VIP's and the occasional celebrity serving the troops through the USO. After the military he had a number of mini careers in different trades ranging from low voltage electrician to real estate agent.

Not satisfied with what is typically classified as a "normal job", he decided to "set out on the sea for adventure" with virtually no experience but knowing he could accomplish anything he set out to do. To gain experience, he started out in Cincinnati with a tug and barge company as a deck hand. He then moved to Fort Lauderdale, working on a tour boat, and anxious for the opportunity to discover yachting.

After a brief period in Ft Lauderdale, he was hired on his first yacht. The Captain liked two things about Brandon; the fact that he was green and open to training. The other aspect was his military experience as a helicopter mechanic/crew chief and how his mechanical ability could be applied to yachting. The first year Brandon worked as a deck hand and a year later was an accomplished Mate/Engineer. He obtained a Yacht Master Offshore Certification with a 200 ton MCA Commercial endorsement, and worked as a freelance Mate/Engineer for two years learning about different makes and models of yachts. His last summer working freelance was delivering smaller 60-70 yachts up the east coast. He then joined M/Y DIAMOND GIRL.

Brandon worked on DIAMOND GIRL as the Mate/Engineer. He left yachting altogether in 2008 to pursue self-employment in the boating industry but assisted a number of times on DIAMOND GIRL with deliveries and training new crew. Five and a half years later he is back again working full time. Owned by wonderful people, DIAMOND GIRL is a unique yacht and has a great crew.

Over the years, Brandon has accumulated over 30,000 miles of ocean experience spanning from the warm waters of the Caribbean to the Iceberg laden waters of Labrador, Canada. He enjoys fishing, boating, diving, and traveling to new destinations. He loves his job and looks forward to providing the guests of DIAMOND GIRL with awesome vacations.

Chef Jason Avakian

Born and raised in Santa Barbara, California, Jason Avakian began cooking by earning a degree from The California Culinary Academy in 1997. He followed by training under celebrity Chef Bradley Ogden at "One Market" in San Francisco.

In 1998 Jason moved to the Caribbean to pursue his dream career as a Yacht Chef. He specializes in Asian, Mexican, French and Italian cuisines and greatly enjoys infusing them with his California fresh style.

When not working aboard Chef Jason's down time is spent surfing, spear fishing and playing with his kids on the beach at home in the US Virgin Islands.

Stewardess - Jennifer Stafinbil

Born and raised on the west coast of the United States, Jennifer Stafinbil calls San Diego, CA home. For the past three years Jennifer has been a stewardess onboard yachts. She has travelled to many amazing destinations including Mexico, the US East Coast and the South Pacific. She is looking forward to the Caribbean with excitement.

When not making you at home onboard DIAMOND GIRL, Jennifer can always be found around the water surfing, diving or just enjoying the shore usually with a camera in hand.
